Rooftop Project - Rue Truffaut

Rooftop greening project on Rue Truffaut in Paris.

Rooftop Garden - Boulevard de Sébastopol

Planted terrace above an existing zinc roof on Boulevard de Sébastopol in Paris’s 1st arrondissement, with panoramic 360-degree views across the city.

Marie Laurencin Green Roof

Rooftop greening at Lycée Professionnel Marie Laurencin in Paris’s 10th arrondissement.

Rue Le Verrier Rooftop Garden

Planted rooftop terrace on Rue Le Verrier in Paris’s 6th arrondissement, featuring wood decking, integrated seating, and perimeter planters.

Académie du Climat

Roofscapes pilot project, completed in spring 2024 on the rooftop of the Climate Academy in Paris, to assess how rooftop interventions can contribute to climate adaptation.

Projects

Roof adaptation of an
Haussmannian building
75001 Paris

Images of our project on the roof of a co-owned Haussmannian building in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. Ahead of theconstruction phase, the project received the APEx Prize from the City of Parisin 2025, awarded to architectural interventions in Paris that demonstrate exemplary bioclimatic design.

Roof adaptation of
a single family house
75006 Paris

Images of our construction site on top of an Haussmannian building in the 6th arrondissement of Paris. Beyond protecting the zinc roof from solar radiations, the project creates a new outdoor space at the roof level, an anchor for biodiversity and a way to capture rain water.

Roof adaptation of
a public high school
75010 Paris

Images of our project on the roof of a publicly owned high-school built in the 20th century in the 10th arrondissement of Paris. The project will serve as a passive cooling device for the floor below and host students for workshop and recreation time.

Proposed Projects

A selection of projects currently underdevelopment for which we have obtained building permits from the Urban Planning Department, for example in the 1st, 10th, and 17th arrondissements of Paris.

Pilot projeCt

Alongside its ongoing projects, Roofscapes completed in the spring of 2024 a pilot project in the heart of Paris, on the roof of the former town hall of the 4th arrondissement, now home to the Académie du Climat. This prototype, developed as part of an R&D procurement contract supported by the City of Paris' Department of Ecological Transition and Climate, aims to measure the impact of Roofscapes’ climate adaptation projects in real-life conditions.

impact assessment

The project's experimental protocol aims to quantify changes in surface and indoor temperatures using thermal sensors, to measure water retention and water consumption, and to study the development of biodiversity using fauna-flora inventories. Initial temperature readings already indicate a temperature reduction of 10°C under the zinc when shaded by the platform, which would be excellent news in the efforts to adapt cities to climate change.

PrincipLe

The thermal principle behind the Roofscapes system is simple: shading roofs to protect them from solar radiation. Unprotected zinc surfaces absorb rays from the sun, overheat, and release this heat both into the apartments below and back into the city. That’s why we cover existing roofs with a wooden platform, which we vegetalize to create unique spaces as well as to unlock the ecosystem benefits of urban vegetation.

IMPACTS

Our rooftop projects demonstrate measurable and immediate impacts: during a heatwave in July 2024, interior temperatures under the roof were reduced by up to 17 °C, while air temperature at the surface of the zinc dropped by 29 °C, helping mitigate some of the harmful effects of urban heat islands. Rainwater retention systems cut plant watering needs by a factor of four, while the planted ecosystems fosters a significant increase in local biodiversity.
